He also serves as President and Head Tester for the USPTA Missouri Valley Division and on the USPTA national Executive Committee. He has served on the Missouri Valley board for 8 years. Gary was named Missouri Valley Pro of the year in 2004 and 2006 as well as Oklahoma Pro of the Year in 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2006. Also in 2006, Gary won the "George Bacso" National Tester of the year award.

“My mother was a four-time Australian champion and I grew up with a racquet in my hand,” Gary says. “I cannot think of anything else I would rather do.

“I work with 4-year-olds to 80-year-olds, novice players and nationally ranked players. I love teaching the game, seeing improvement and being a part of young people’s lives.”

Gary’s greatest accomplishment in tennis involved one of his students, Brooks Altschuler. He played at a non-scholarship school, Boston College, and won a Big East singles championships in 1994. He was the only non-Miami University player to win one at that tournament.

Gary plans to continue his tennis education and hopes to earn his Master Professional status.

He and his wife, Carrie, have four children, Mackenzie, Hannah, Rhys and Wyatt. “Yep,” he says. “I have a foursome for mixed doubles.”
